LOVE LETTER FOUND AFTER 10 YEARS!

ok, i’m a fan of these kind of stories. the reason is because i like it when things suddenly fall into place when we least expect it or you know, finding out that “somebody” up there is fixing things for the best results. i like happy endings in movies, music and most of all, in real life. read this:

LONDON (AFP) – A British man and his Spanish former sweetheart have finally married 16 years after they drifted apart, reunited by a love letter lost behind a fireplace for over a decade, reports said on Monday.

Steve Smith and Carmen Ruiz-Perez, both now 42, fell in love 17 years ago when she was a foreign exchange student in Brixham, southwest England, and got engaged after only a year together.

But their relationship ended after she moved France to run a shop in Paris.

A few years later, in a bid to rekindle their love, Smith sent a letter to her mother’s home in Spain. It was placed on the mantelpiece, but slipped down behind the fireplace and was lost for over a decade.

The missing missive was only found when builders removed the fireplace during renovation work.

“When I got the letter I didn’t phone Steve right away because I was so nervous,” Ruiz-Perez told the Herald Express local newspaper.

“I nearly didn’t phone him at all. I kept picking up the phone then putting it down again.

“But I knew I had to make the call.”

When they were reunited, it was as if time had stood still, said Smith, a factory supervisor.

“When we met again it was like a film. We ran across the airport into each other’s arms. We met up and fell in love all over again. Within 30 seconds of setting eyes on each other we were kissing.

“I’m just glad the letter did eventually end up where it was supposed to be,” he said, after the couple married last Friday.

world’s OLDEST BLOGGER dies at 97

i was shocked when i learned that somebody this old was actually blogging like me. she even posted videos of herself and of some others that she enjoyed at youtube. amazing, isn’t it?!

my mother at 52 years old doesn’t have the patience and interest in the cyberworld which made me think i’d lose it too when i get to that age. i wish i would be like Maria Amelia when i turn 90 plus. i would still be able to type down the words and enjoy the internet as a distraction from all the pains of life unfolding. read the news:

(CNN) — A Spanish grandmother who became an Internet sensation after dubbing herself the “world’s oldest blogger” has died at 97. Maria Amelia Lopez became an Internet sensation with her riffs on growing old and modern politics.

Maria Amelia Lopez, who died Wednesday, began blogging from her home in Galicia two years ago, winning a raft of fans with her eclectic mix of commentary and nostalgia infused with a sharp wit.

She was introduced to the Internet when her grandson set up the blog as a gift to mark her 95th birthday.

It proved a great escape, Lopez later writing: “On December 23rd 2006, my grandson gave me a present, this blog when I was 95 years old … and my life changed … now, I can communicate and interact with the world.”

She wrote and video blogged about her experiences opposing Franco’s regime, modern politics — covering topics ranging from the Basque separatist threat to Iran’s nuclear ambitions — and poignantly discussed what it was like to grow old.

In one of her last postings in February she said: “When I’m on the Internet, I forget about my illness. The distraction is good for you — being able to communicate with people. It wakes up the brain, and gives you great strength.”

Her family left a posthumous post, thanking readers for their support.

“[There were] 880 days when her blog made her happy… the support she needed to enjoy her last days of life,” they wrote.

“When somebody leaves after 97 years, living with joy from the beginning to the end, we can’t be sad.

“Wherever you are, grandmother, you will read these comments, all of them without doubt. She will laugh at some, will learn with others, she might get annoyed at the specific ‘language’ used in some … but she will be happy reading all of them.”

i’m proud to say that my household belongs to a green community. it started a long time ago with my mom and dad’s resourcefulness when it comes to recycling materials and growing plants. it’s something that my siblings and i carried out to our adulthood. there are times when it’s hard for us to let go of stuff like canisters, papers and even shoe boxes because we know we could make them over and use them for something. having said that, you could imagine what one would see in almost every corner of our house – scrap. good scraps though :)

according to the Green Study, the internet has become one of the major advocates of turning the earth back to green. aside from disseminating information worldwide, online stores were built for our convenience. it’s for everybody’s benefit because more energy is conserved and the study showed a significant decrease in carbon dioxide emission when the items we buy are being transported home to us instead of everyone going out and driving their cars towards shopping malls.

i also have plans of setting up an online store. aside from all the personal, wonderful benefits of working at home, it feels good to know that it benefits our mother earth as well :)

13-year old dad, 15-year old mom?

i received this info last night from my email and researched more about it online. there were allegations that the story being covered on newspapers and magazines aren’t real (e.g. that the boy isn’t the real father and three other boys are claiming the child, etc.) but still, it excites my curiosity especially when the little boy talked about his early days of “fatherhood”.

the 4-foot, baby-faced alfie patten is the 13-year old dad of 7lb 3oz baby girl named maisie, with girlfriend chantelle steadman. here’s their video:

alfie agreed to take the DNA test in order to prove that he’s the father of baby maisie. opposed to his innocent looks, i found out that his family life is a little complicated; his own dad, dennis patten, divorced his mother nicola for a teenage friend of his eldest daughter. follow through this story here.

this did not really surprise me especially when i found out long time ago that my grandmother MARRIED my grandfather at age 13 and had their first child at age 14. a few years ago in the news, a 9-year old mother was on spotlight here in the philippines.

what i only found really shocking is this little bit of information:

BOYS can actually get a girl pregnant at the age of six or seven — though it is extremely rare.

Puberty starts for most boys at 12. Hormonal changes occur first and then sperm starts to mature — though it is unlikely at this stage that many would be capable of impregnating a girl.

The growth spurt, voice changes plus facial hair are secondary to hormonal changes and come later.

white rabbit candy, banned in singapore

i just received a warning message from my brother in singapore regarding this. according to the news, more than 6,200 babies are sick and four have already died in mainland china after the intake of either powdered or liquid baby formula, which were found to be contaminated with melamine.

melamine is a chemical used in the production of plastic wares and it can cause damage to the kidneys when ingested. it has high nitrogen content which registers as protein under milk testing. farmers were suspected to use this chemical in disguising watered-down milk and increase profit margins.

agri-food and veterinary authority (AVA) of singapore have already suspended importing milk and other milk products such as ice cream, yogurt, milk chocolates, and biscuits from almost all of China’s biggest dairy companies since september 19. and today, they also found melamine content in the ever famous white rabbit creamy candy.

let’s pray that this milk scandal / issue will be resolved as soon as possible and all affected babies will be able to recover.

cremated father is alive

there was an interestingly odd news on reuters that caught my attention last week about a cremated father who’s found alive by his son.

what happened was, the 71-year old John Delaney disappeared in 2000. after 3 years, a badly decomposed body that matched his clothes and wounds was found dead in Manchester Royal Infirmary. the family had a funeral and had him cremated.

after five more years, John Renehan, Delaney’s 42-year old son, saw his father on BBC Missing Live program. he said, “i knew straight away that was my dad.”

Delaney is suffering amnesia and has been in care home for 8 years. he was admitted to the hospital 10 days after he was reported missing and since he couldn’t provide any of his personal details to the police, he was just given a new name: David Harrison.

after DNA testing, father and son is now reunited. Renehan said that he’s been showing him pictures and things are starting to click.

seven miracle babies of egypt

the 27-year old mother in Egypt, Ghazala Khamis, gave birth to 4 boys and 3 girls through C-section last monday, August 18, 2008. each of the babies weighed between 4.4 to 6.6 pounds and confined in incubators because they are premature babies who had to be delivered at their 8th month because they are causing pressure on their mother’s kidneys.

but there were no detected deformities or abnormalities whatsoever. according to the news, the couple just wanted a baby boy because they already have 3 girls. so she took a fertility pill after not being able to ovulate for five years and the drug is just supposed to increase the probability of giving birth to a boy. walla… they got 7!anyway the good news is, the seven babies will receive free milk and nappies for two years from the government.

side note: have you ever thought of managing your very own home business? well that’s what keeps me busy these days. looking for the right field of business is a little bit difficult for me because i have so many interests. there’s a lot to learn and browsing through websites involved in home-based business opportunities are what keeps me awake until dawn. have any ideas?

my brother is one of the supervisors of a huge real estate company in cavite and he was the one who told me about this last month after their management held a meeting about it. i didn’t know it’s still going on until i received this forwarded email from my sister:

Kidnapping in Southern Luzon, Victim’s Internal Organs Missing

Kidnapping is rampant nowadays. Kidnappers usually asked ransom money from the parents of their victims. But lately, I was disturbed of the news about the kidnap victims whose internal organs were missing after they were found.

In Ibaan, Batangas four children were abducted. One of them were found with the pair of eyes missing and with Php 30,000 pesos on his/her mouth. Three were found with missing internal organs. There was also report in Tanauan, Batangas with a missing heart and Php 8,000 pesos on the hole of the victim’s chest. It’s really creepy.

Lately, there have been reports that the kidnappings is not only happening in Batangas. There were also similar incidents in Cavite and Laguna. Last Wednesday, March 5, my friend told me that there was a third year high school student (from a school in San Pedro, Laguna) was abducted on her way home. I still haven’t heard about what happened to the victim.

I heard that a syndicate is behind this kidnapping and they are selling the organs to the black market. Text messages and email messages has been circulating saying that a white van with plate no. VMM 507 is said to be the kidnappers van. In our place the cartographic sketch of the kidnapper and the plate no. of the vehicle used by the kidnapper were posted everywhere.

Residents in our area in Laguna were already afraid. Students going to school were now accompanied by their parents and yayas. It has been reported that the kidnappers where luring children going to and from school. Our school management even released a letter to parents to watch for their children when going to school and while playing outside their houses.

I appeal to our police to do something about this. This kind of horrific deeds should be taken seriously and investigate this matter.

everybody please watch your kids closely and i think that it’s better for us to keep them aware of these events so that they would know of the danger and stay away from it. i can’t believe how these people have become. they were once kids too and i’m sure some of them do have kids as well. let’s pray that this world be a better place for everyone.
