how to set your friendster profile / albums to private
for the past few months, i’ve noticed traffic coming from search engines with this query and they were being forwarded to this entry: how to view private friendster profile. (the first few “lucky” searchers were able to use the online tool for doing so until friendster updated a patch for it. doesn’t work anymore!)
so anyway, since it seems ironic to those who are actually searching for a way to protect themselves online and for the sake of those who are looking for the steps on how to set their friendster profiles or even albums to private, hope this helps:
1. from your friendster “dashboard”, you’ll see a menu at the top right hand-side where it says MESSAGES, SETTINGS, HELP and LOGOUT. click SETTINGS.
2. if you got it right, you should be taken to your ACCOUNT SETTINGS. scroll down to where it says PRIVACY SETTINGS. you’ll see these options:

RECOMMENDED SETTINGS:
who can view recent updates on my profile: SELECTED CONTINENTS
friend requests: REQUIRE EMAIL ADDRESS OR LAST NAME
fan requests: MANUALLY ACCEPT REQUEST
display last name on profile: NO (note: it’s up to you, but remember that your FRIEND REQUESTS are set to require your LAST NAME. so what’s the sense of requiring it if you’re actually displaying it?)
view profiles anonymously: NO (note: if you set this to YES, you won’t be able to see who’s viewed you)
who can view my full profile: MY FRIENDS (note: this is actually how to set your full profile to PRIVATE)
who can send me messages: SELECTED CONTINENTS (note: again, it’s up to you. being “too private” loses the sense of joining this networking site)
safe mode: NO (note: selecting YES will disable the HTML and CSS features/design of your template)
show my birthday to my friends: YES (why not?)
show horoscopes: YES
allow photo comments: YES (note: it’s up to you)
allow photo rating: YES
allow photo grabbing: YES (note: if you don’t want other people to have your uploaded pictures displayed on their profile, set this to NO)
promote my profile: ENABLED
who can leave a comment: SELECTED CONTINENTS (note: if your full profile is already set to MY FRIENDS only, then don’t worry about this setting)
approve text comments automatically: NEVER (note: it’s better to manually approve comments now because of the recent friendster virus or spam that spread like wild fire through comments)
3. don’t forget to click SAVE at the bottom. then you’re done!
4. also, make sure that you are LOGGED OUT of your account before you leave your computer station in case you’re in an internet access rental place. many “kolokoys” out there might change your settings, send rude messages to your friends, or do some nasty stuff just for fun, so careful kids.
HOW TO SET YOUR FRIENDSTER PHOTO ALBUMS TO PRIVATE
1. from your dashboard, mouse-over the PROFILE menu (right below the friendster logo) and click PHOTOS.
2. you’re in the right place if you can see thumbnails of your albums which should display PHOTO ALBUMS (your name’s profile). at the bottom of each album, you’ll see the name, number of photos, display setting (private or public) and two links: SHARE ALBUM and EDIT. click EDIT.
3. a rectangular window should appear, and it will give you the option to set the selected album to public or private. of course, click PRIVATE. note: it will not give you the option to set your album to private if it contains your primary photo.
4. click SAVE CHANGES and you’re done!
